At TEDxPortHarcourt Countdown 2025, Christina Ifubaraboye, director of Pülö: bloodstream of the Kirike shared how the film grew from personal inquiry into loss and heritage to become a reflection on environmental justice and cultural survival in the Niger Delta.
The curiosity grounded me and led me back
The event's theme, The Next Now - Saving the Planet, felt especially urgent for Rivers State, where habitat loss, pollution, and climate change are part of daily life. Attendees also experienced How About Our Oil Rivers?, an exhibition of photographs by Divine Okolo, lead cinemabographer of Pülö: bloodstream of the Kirike
An Exhibition of Visuals from Pülö
First launched at the Movies That Matter Film Festival in collaboration with Human Rights In the Picture at the Hague, Netherlands. The exhibition returned to Port Harcourt to ask the same question - Why has the former Oil Rivers Protectorate, central to global trade long before Nigeria's formation been largely absent from conversations on history and extraction?
How About Our Oil Rivers?
We were heartened by the conversations, reflections and pride the audience shared seeing stories that have too often been reduced to a stereotypical gaze through a Western lens, now being told with care.
We can't wait to share Pülö with the wider world, Stay Tuned!
